Sarver's Banks Take No Position on Migrant Law

Posted on 05/12/10 via Arizona Republic

“Los Sons” won’t morph into “Los Bankers.”

Robert Sarver, the Phoenix Suns managing partner who sparked controversy by unveiling bilingual uniforms for a playoff game against the San Antonio Spurs last week, indicated he doesn’t intend to do anything like that involving the banking firm that he oversees.

Sarver, chairman and chief executive officer of Nevada-based Western Alliance Bancorporation, which operates Alliance Bank of Arizona, said the move to adopt the bilingual jerseys was basically a team decision to support diversity in the National Basketball Association, Arizona and the nation.

Sarver also has come out personally against Arizona’s tough new immigration law, while adding that he is opposed to illegal immigration.
At any rate, his views will stay in the arena, not any bank lobbies.
“Western Alliance and Alliance Bank of Arizona take no position on this issue,” Sarver said.
