Faces of Downtown: Anna Lee

Anna Lee pointingAnna Lee has been a fixture in Downtown Phoenix since 1928 when she and her husband, Kai, opened Sing High, a Cantonese-style restaurant. As the story goes, Kai wanted to name the restaurant Shanghai, but with his thick accent, the sign painter came up with Sing High instead. Anna, along with her son, Harlan, and his wife, Karleen, continue to run the family restaurant, which is located on Madison Street, and satisfy Phoenicians’ cravings for Sing High fried rice, one of the spot’s most popular dishes.
