New Restaurant Rundown

bonjour

Get your taste buds ready Downtowners, we’ve got a slew of dining options newly opened or opening in the next few months. Here’s the rundown:

Opened:

Bonjour Vietnam

This French Vietnamese fusion spot has been open since December, but they had a quiet – nearly unannounced – opening. Now that spring brings us sunny-but-not-hot days, stop by their patio on the corner of Monroe and Central for spring rolls, bahn mi, pho or just to enjoy drinks. This fun restaurant from the bright minds behind Rice Paper is open almost all day, every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Yogurt Time

Opened this week in the former Yogurtini location at CityScape, and Yogurt Time has, well, lots of frozen yogurt and toppings. Perfect for the upcoming season of sun, they’re open every day. Sunday – Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Almost Open:

La Piazza Locale

Justin Piazza is bringing the distinguishing certification of Verace Pizza Napoletana to Downtown – and soon. There’s only three “True Neapolitan Pizza” certified restaurants in Arizona – one is his other spot La Piazza al Forno in Glendale – that conform to the exacting standards of true Napolese pizza. Look for his new pizza-centric digs to open at 1 N. First Street in the spot recently vacated by Cartel Coffee (they moved just two doors down into a bigger space). Rumored open date is early May.

Squid Ink Sushi

A walk-up sushi window at CityScape? Oh yes. Schuyler Estes is bringing sushi and contemporary Asian dishes to a spot (and window) under Blue Hound Kitchen and Cocktails this summer. According to the Arizona Republic, we can expect ramen, Asian tapas, chicken teriyaki and, as the name implies, sushi. The restaurant will stay open late and cater to both employees and weekend adventurers.

Phoenix Public Market Cafe

With the twice-weekly outdoor Phoenix Public Market doing booming business and Food Truck Friday lines verging on springtime chaos, we’re looking forward to Aaron Chamberlin’s soon-to-open Phoenix Public Market Cafe in the former Urban Grocery and Wine Bar spot. In keeping with the market theme, the cafe will feature local produce from farms such as McClendon’s Select and Maya’s Farm with reasonable prices. The official open date hasn’t been set yet, but a late spring, early summer date is most likely.

  1. I am excited about “La Piazza Locale” opening in Downtown! We will then have one of only 3 restaurants in Arizona with a “VPN (Verace Pizza Napoletana)cetification! This will add to the many different styles of Pizza available in Downtown Phoenix (Pizzeria Bianco, CIBO, Hanny’s, Z-Pizza, Papa Christo’s, Cafe Roma, etc.) and to this Pizza Lover that is even more pizza to love! By the way, true pizza lovers enjoy all styles of pizza without feeling the need to choose a favorite kind or style, L’abbondanza!!!
